One year removed from the most lopsided loss of his career, Calvin Kattar returned with a vengeance at UFC on ESPN 32.

Kattar battered and bloodied Giga Chikadze for five rounds, earning a lopsided unanimous decision in Saturday’s headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It wasn’t completely unlike what happened to Kattar against Max Holloway in January 2021, but this time “The Boston Finisher” was on the other end of the proceedings, ending Chikadze’s nine-bout winning streak in the process.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC on ESPN 32, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

144: Significant strikes landed by Kattar, the most of his 10-bout UFC career. HIs previous best of 133 came in the aforementioned loss to Holloway, where his opponent landed a whopping 445 significant strikes in response. Chikadze, meanwhile, landed 128 significant strikes in defeat.

51: Significant strikes landed by Kattar in Round 5 — the most he landed in any frame. By comparison, Chikadze landed 32 significant strikes.

127: Significant head strikes landed by Kattar, who repeatedly targeted his foe with crisp punches and standing elbows. Chikadze, meanwhile, landed 94 significant strikes to the head.

27: Significant body strikes landed by Chikadze, who is known for his punishing liver kicks. Kattar, who landed 13 body strikes of his own, was largely unfazed by his opponent’s offerings.

2: Takedowns landed in five attempts by Kattar, tied for the most of his promotional tenure. That included an early takedown of Chikadze that led to 3:19 of control time in the bout’s opening round.

2-2: Record for former middleweight and light heavyweight competitor Jake Collier in the UFC at heavyweight. “The Prototype” earned the fourth submission victory of his pro career with a rear-naked choke finish of Chase Sherman in the UFC on ESPN 32 co-main event.

12: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 15 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that scored the flyweight bout between Brandon Royval and Rogerio Bontorin in favor of Royval. Royval also earned an official split-decision triumph by virtue of 29-28 scorecards from judges Eric Colon and Chris Lee. Douglas Crosby, meanwhile, submitted a 29-28 tally in favor of Bontorin.

8: Takedowns landed in nine attempts for Bontorin, a UFC career high for the Brazilian. Bontorin landed five takedowns combined in his first five promotional outings.

42: Total strikes by which Royval outlanded Bontorin. “Raw Dawg” also held a 40-to-28 edge in significant strikes landed.

3: Submissions attempted by Royval, including an armbar in Round 3 that appeared to nearly draw a tap from Bontorin. The Factory X member now has six submission attempts in his UFC career, but Saturday marked the first time in the Octagon where he attempted at least one submission but didn’t force a tapout from his opponent.

8: Flyweight victories for Katlyn Chookagian, tying her with former foe Valentina Shevchenko for the most in UFC history. Chookagian scored a clear-cut decision triumph over Jennifer Maia on Saturday to improve to 2-0 in the Octagon against the Brazilian.

10: Consecutive decision victories in UFC competition for Chookagian. She is the first fighter in promotion history to reach that many wins without a finish to her name.

2,128: Days since Chookagian’s last finish, a first-round knee KO of Stephanie Bragayrac at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 57 on March 19, 2016. Overall, “Blonde Fighter” only has three finishes among 17 professional victories.

112: Total strikes landed by Bill Algeo en route to a unanimous decision triumph against Joanderson Brito at featherweight. By comparison, Brito landed 46 total strikes in defeat. Algeo also held a 59-to-40 edge in significant strikes landed.

5: Takedowns landed in 11 attempts for Court McGee in a three-round verdict over Ramiz Brahimaj at welterweight. That ties a UFC career best in 19 appearances for “The Crusher” who also secured five takedowns in a win against Kris McCray in his promotional debut in June 2010.

22: Significant strike advantage for Kevin Croom in a unanimous decision loss to Brian Kelleher. Croom also more than doubled his opponent in significant strikes attempted (174 to 77), but Kelleher ultimately won the fight thanks to six takedowns, a knockdown and 6:26 of control time.

2: Consecutive losses for Charles Rosa following his unanimous decision defeat to T.J. Brown in a short-notice lightweight encounter. It’s the first streak of any kind in UFC competition for “Boston Strong,” who began his promotional tenure by alternating losses and wins in his first 11 appearances.

6: Takedowns landed in eight attempts for Brown, who also attempted three submissions, executed two reversals and logged 7:39 of control time in earning his second straight UFC win.
