After 19 months away from the cage, Georges St. Pierre had plenty to prove in his return to action. When all was said and done on Saturday night, the welterweight champion silenced the doubters with an impressive five-round victory over interim 170-pound titlist Carlos Condit in the UFC 154 main event at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Show no ill effects of the knee surgery that kept him sidelined, St. Pierre struck for takedowns in each round and punished Condit with his trademark ground-and-pound. The Canadian also had to battle through adversity, as “The Natural Born Killer” had him in serious trouble after scoring a knockdown with a head kick in round three. “Rush” managed to survive the danger, however, and Condit was unable to reproduce a similar threat in the final two frames. With the win, a lucrative super fight with Anderson Silva remains in play for the champion. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC 154, with statistics provided by FightMetric.com.

75: Takedowns landed during the UFC career of St. Pierre, No. 1 all-time in the promotion and 11 more than Gleison Tibau, who is No. 2 on the list.

.780: Career takedown accuracy for St. Pierre, the best rate among anyone in the promotion with at least five UFC fights and 20 takedowns attempted.

190: Total strikes landed by Condit on Saturday night, 18 more than St. Pierre. The Jackson’s MMA representative spent much of the fight landing offense from his back after being taken down by the Canadian.

.750: Significant striking defense for St. Pierre, No. 1 all-time in the UFC. He was in usual form against Condit, as the New Mexican landed only 36 of his 148 significant strikes thrown, a 24 percent clip.

10-0: St. Pierre’s record on Canadian soil. The St. Isidore, Quebec, native’s last three title defenses have come in his home country.

8: Successful title defenses for St. Pierre, a streak that dates back to Apr. 19, 2008. During that reign, St. Pierre has bested Serra, Jon Fitch, B.J. Penn, Thiago Alves, Dan Hardy, Josh Koscheck, Jake Shields and now Condit.

2: Combined significant strikes landed in two UFC appearances for Chad Griggs. The Strikeforce veteran is 0-2 in the Octagon after suffering first-round submission losses to Cyrille Diabate and Travis Browne.

12: Decisions in 14 UFC appearances for Sam Stout, tying him with Jon Fitch for the most of anyone in the promotion. Stout dropped a unanimous decision to John Makdessi on Saturday night.

21: Significant strikes by which Makdessi outlanded Stout during their lightweight encounter. “The Bull” outlanded his fellow Canadian in every round, but his greatest advantage came in the final frame, when he outlanded Stout 31 to 16.

2-5: Record for “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” veteran Rodrigo Damm over his last seven fights following a split decision setback at the hands of Antonio Carvalho. Damm was finished in each of his other four defeats prior to facing Carvalho.

7: Previous opponents for Azamat Gashimov who made their professional debut against the Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts-trained Russian. Gashimov submitted to a first round armbar against Ivan Menjivar, who entered the contest with 33 fights under his belt.
