Heading into Saturday night, both Lyoto Machida and Renan Barao were looking to make a statement after losing championship fights in their most recent Octagon appearances. Consider the mission accomplished.
Machida was undeniably the more impressive of the two, as he dispatched C.B. Dollaway with a wicked kick to the body and follow-up punches 62 seconds into the opening round of their headlining bout UFC Fight Night in Sao Paulo. Barao, meanwhile, needed more time to put his foe away, but he was successful nonetheless, tapping out Mitch Gagnon 3:53 into the third round in the evening’s co-main event. Before we begin to contemplate either fighter’s future title prospects, let us examine some of the statistics that got them to this point. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night “Machida vs. Dollaway,” with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com.
