Matches to Make After 2024 PFL Europe Playoffs
The 2024 Professional Fighters League Europe Championships are set for Dec. 14 in Lyon, France, as four divisions vie for separate $100,000 championships.
Women’s Flyweight: Shanelle Dyer vs Paulina Wisniewska
Dyer kept her undefeated record intact with a grueling victory over Valentina Scatizzi. After Scatizzi was finished by Dakota Ditcheva in 2023, Dyer came in with comparisons to Ditcheva, but the two women fought all 15 minutes. Dyer was able to persevere to earn a unanimous decision. Wisniewska faced fellow Poland native Karolina Wojcik and did what she had to do in order to get the win. In a contest that was waged mostly against the cage, Wisniewska did enough to keep the fight in her favor and notch a unanimous decision of her own.Men’s Bantamweight: Lewis McGrillen-Evans vs Alexander Luster
In what was one of the most exciting fights with plenty of back-and-forth big moments, McGrillen-Evans was able to take care of veteran Dean Garnett. McGrillen-Evans used his dangerous and powerful left hand to drop Garnett several times, and it was the same left hand that closed the show in the third round. Luster would also get a finish, with his manifesting early into the opening frame. Luster would hurt Julien Lopez in a striking exchange, get the fight to the ground, and wrap up a rear-naked choke to secure his place in the finals. During the face-off between he and McGrillen-Evans, Lister promised a first-round finish.Men’s Lightweight: Jakub Kaszuba vs Connor Hughes
It will be a return to the championship for Kaszuba, who was the 2023 PFL Europe champion. He secured his spot in the final with a unanimous decision victory over Daniele Scatizzi. Kaszuba was in control most of the fight but there were some fun moments of dirty boxing between the two. Hughes also got a unanimous decision victory with a win over Ignacio Capella. While it took a while for Hughes to get going, he used efficient striking to control the match. Capella had moments of pushing the pace and swinging for the big shot, but Hughes kept his distance and that would lead him to victory.Men’s Welterweight: Daniele Miceli vs Florim Zendeli
In the biggest betting upset of the night, Miceli made quick short work of Ibrahima Mane in the first round of their semifinal clash. At first, it was tough to see exactly what Miceli landed but replays showed two big short shots in the clinch that would faceplant Mane, cementing the Italian’s place in the championships. Zendeli would have a much tougher task in his duel against Jack Grant. After suffering a brutal cut on his nose in the first round, Zendeli would put on a strong performance in the second and third rounds. His effort and grit in the second half of the fight led him to get a split decision and put him in the 170-pound finals.
