5-Fight Main Card Official for Strikeforce Challengers 18
The main draw for Strikeforce
Challengers 18 is now set, as five fights have been green-lit
for the Showtime broadcast on Aug. 12.
Headlined by a lightweight scrap between Jorge Gurgel (Pictured) and Joe Duarte, Strikeforce Challengers 18 will emanate from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Also featuring a middleweight tilt between Danillo Villefort and Nate James, the event marks the promotion’s second Challengers effort in Nevada.
Airing live on Showtime, delayed on the west coast, women’s featherweight prospect and Olympic judoka Ronda Rousey will lock horns with Sarah D’Alelio. Additionally, lightweight staple Pat Healy will toe the line against Eric Wisely, while once-beaten Roy Jones meets American Top Team representative Derrick Mehmen in a light heavyweight duel.
Three fights have been cleared for the evening’s undercard, as 205-pound prospect Gian Villante will look to rebound from back-to-back against Keith Berry. Also featured prior to the televised card will be a pair of welterweight confrontations, as Lukasz Les meets Nah-Shon Burrell, and Mike Bronzoulis takes on Chad Leonhardt.
A preliminary lightweight contest between Sterling Ford and Milton Vieira has also been announced for the event, though it has not yet been added to the official fight card.
