Bellator 136 Medicals: Rafael Carvalho Facing 6 Months for Possible Fractured Jaw

Rafael Carvalho may have gotten a victory over Joe Schilling at Bellator 136, but he did not make it out of their middleweight co-headlining bout unscathed.

The Brazilian is facing six months on the sidelines for a potentially fractured jaw suffered in his split-decision triumph over the Glory veteran at Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif., on Friday night. Carvalho, who must receive doctor clearance to compete, is one of six fighters from Bellator 136 that received a six-month suspension, according to the California State Athletic Commission.

Bellator 136 was headlined by Will Brooks’ five-round verdict over Dave Jansen in a lightweight championship bout. Jansen could be out for up to 60 days due to lacerations on his left cheek, left eyebrow and right eyebrow. Brooks, meanwhile, received just the seven-day mandatory rest period.

Two other fighters from the Bellator 136 main card could be shelved for six months: Alexander Sarnavskiy, who tapped to a Marcin Held kneebar in round three, must be cleared by a physician for a possible fracture to his right knee, while Alexander Volkov, who dropped a unanimous decision against Tony Johnson, must receive clearance for a potentially fractured right hand.
