Source: UFC on Fox 2 Averaged 4.7 Million Viewers on Fox

UFC on Fox 2 earned an average of 4.7 million viewers for its Saturday night broadcast on Fox.

Sherdog.com Tuesday confirmed the viewership figure with an industry source, who also revealed that the broadcast posted respective ratings of 3.21 and 3.20 in the Male 18-49 and 18-34 demographics.

All three figures represent a decline from the promotion’s inaugural effort on Fox in November, which was the most-watched MMA event in U.S. broadcast history. Featuring a heavyweight title main event between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez, UFC on Fox 1 attracted an average of 5.7 million viewers and earned ratings of 4.0 and 4.3 in the aforementioned male demographics.

Headlined by a pivotal light heavyweight scrap between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis, UFC on Fox 2 marked the organization’s first trip to the United Center in Chicago. Evans outpointed Davis in the main event, notching a unanimous decision and earning his long-awaited crack at light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

The Fox telecast featured three fights in total, showcasing Chael Sonnen’s victory over Michael Bisping as well as Chris Weidman’s triumph over Demian Maia in addition to the light heavyweight headliner.

UFC on Fox 2 tied the promotion’s second-best ratings, drawing even with 2007’s UFC 75, which featured a headlining attraction between Quinton Jackson and Dan Henderson and aired on Spike TV via tape delay. The previous high for a network television MMA broadcast was set by EliteXC “Primetime” in 2008, which pulled an average of 4.85 million viewers on CBS.

Spike TV’s counter programming effort on Saturday took in an average of 960,000 viewers for a UFC Fight Night replay from 7-9 p.m. ET, and averaged 720,000, 805,000 and 821,000 viewers for three consecutive episodes of “UFC Unleashed” beginning at 9 p.m.
