Triangle Choke Submission Shines ONE Friday Fights 53 Spotlight on Nachin Sat

Mongolia’s Nachin Sat on Friday put forth an impressive showing in his sophomore ONE Championship outing by submitting Azerbaijan’s Tural Askerov in the first frame of their featherweight showcase at ONE Friday Fights 53 held at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Both fighters came out throwing leg kicks and feints in the opening sequence. Thirty seconds into the round, Askerov (4-2) was on top of Sat thanks to a leg kick that threw his opponent off-balance.

Despite having the advantageous position, Askerov found it hard to get his ground-and-pound off against the Mongolian, who kept fighting with body triangles and elbows from bottom. Just when Askarov seemed to be content with holding the top position, Sat (6-2) managed to sneak in a triangle choke at the 3:51 of Round 1 to walk away with his second ONE Championship victory.

Meanwhile, Chayan Oorzhak recorded his third consecutive ONE Championship win with a unanimous decision over Babar Ali in a three-round flyweight feature.

While Oorzhak (8-2) immediately took the center and began pressing forward against his opponent with strikes, Ali was quick to clinch up with the Mongolian and press him up against the ropes. Avoiding any takedown attempts, Oorzhak calmly kept defending while landing a few elbows and eventually gaining top position against Ali (7-3), this time landing vicious knees and punches on his adversary. Once the two were back on their feet, Oorzhak’s stand-up skills seemed to be too much for Ali, who had to endure some more ground-and-pound before getting a takedown of his own in the dying seconds of the first stanza.

In the second round, Oorzhak managed to land some crisp shots on the feet before skillfully thwarting a takedown attempt by his opponent. The Mongolian continued to unload strikes while denying Ali’s takedowns successfully. Halfway through the frame, Oorzhak began to unload on Ali in the corner when “The Flogger” shot in for a single-leg only, to be immediately reversed and pounded by the 32-year-old. Despite being outclassed by his opponent, Ali refused to abandon his relentless approach, securing a takedown towards the end of the round that allowed him to land a few strikes from top.

The third frame once again saw Oorzhak press forward and outstrike Ali with vicious right hands and body shots before being clinched up by “The Flogger” against the ropes and eventually being separated by the referee. Ooorzhak immediately got back to his striking, landing at will while still stopping Ali’s takedown efforts. Although Ali managed to keep the fight on the ropes going into the last minute, Oorzhak eventually broke away and ended the round with a flying knee attempt before exiting the ring with the decision.
