An initial report from Finnish site Sportii published an interview Makwan Amirkhani (15-4) had done where he claimed he will be facing Danny Henry (12-3) on July 11 at UFC 251. This match, and the one that follows, have been added to the first card that will be held on “Fight Island,” which will be in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Amirkhani lost by knockout for the first time in his career his last time out at UFC 244 in 2019, after Shane Burgos finished him with 28 seconds left in their bout. Prior to the punctuating defeat, “Mr. Finland” scored a split decision over Jason Knight in 2018 and became the first fighter to tap Chris Fishgold when he hit an anaconda choke in June 2019. Two-thirds of Amirkhani’s victories have come by submission, using five different maneuvers including a heel hook and the aforementioned anaconda choke.

Scotland’s Henry had his five-fight win streak snapped at the hands of Dan Ige in March 2019. A series of wins in the African Extreme Fighting Champoinship promotion led to Henry earning a spot in the UFC. In his promotional debut, he beat Daniel Teymur on the scorecards, and then went on in 2018 to put Hakeem Dawodu to sleep with a guillotine choke in under 40 seconds.

Additionally, Combate first reported that Karol Rosa (12-3) and Vanessa Melo (10-7) will square off on the same card. Rosa later confirmed the booking on her Instagram.

Brazil’s Rosa made her successful debut with the Las Vegas-based organization by taking a split decision over Lara Fritzen Procopio in 2019. Her fight with Procopio taking place in China, it was the 25-year-old’s first bout outside of her home country of Brazil. Her opponent Melo has lost her last two, suffering a pair of unanimous decision defeats to Irene Aldana and Tracy Cortez in 2019. Prior to those losses, Melo had won her last five, including victories over longtime MMA vet Jan Finney and former Invicta Fighting Championships competitor Daiane Firmino.

UFC 251 will take place on July 11 on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. A trio of title fights will sit atop the card, with the marquis championship affair at welterweight pitting Kamaru Usman against Gilbert Burns. Below that is a featherweight rematch for the belt between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway. That 145-pound pairing will be preceded by a scrap for the vacant bantamweight throne between Petr Yan and Jose Aldo.
