UFC on FX 6 Headed to Australia’s Gold Coast; Soszynski, Oliveira Meet in 205-Pound Matchup
A venue has been announced for UFC on FX 6, which will feature a light heavyweight bout between Krzysztof Soszynski and Ednaldo Oliveira.
The show takes place Dec. 15 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gold Coast, Australia, and will be headlined by a middleweight tilt pitting former Bellator champion Hector Lombard against submission ace Rousimar Palhares. “The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. U.K.” coaches Ross Pearson and George Sotiropoulos will square off at the event, as will the reality show’s to-be-determined lightweight and welterweight finalists.
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre was opened in 2004 and is capable of housing 6,000 spectators. The venue has been the home of the National Basketball League’s Gold Coast Blaze since 2007 and also hosts home games for the Queensland Firebirds, a Brisbane-based netball team.
Soszynski has not competed since suffering a 35-second knockout at the hands of Igor Pokrajac on Dec. 10 at UFC 140. That defeat snapped a two-fight winning streak for the Polish-born Canadian, who had outpointed Goran Reljic and Mike Massenzio prior to the Pokrajac stoppage.
Oliveira makes the cut to light heavyweight for his bout with “The Polish Experiment.” The Brazilian suffered the first loss of his career to countryman and former heavyweight title contender Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 142, as Oliveira was choked out by “Napao” in the first round of their Jan. 14 meeting. Oliveira owns eight of his 13 career victories by knockout and has gone to a decision just three times in seven years as a pro.
