Cage Warriors 49: Cathal Pendred v Bruno Carvalho

(PRESS RELEASE) -- London, United Kingdom (September 12, 2012) - A CLASH of two of the CWFC welterweight division’s top stars has been added to the card for Cage Warriors 49, with Cathal Pendred and Bruno Carvalho set to meet in Cardiff.

The bout will form part of the main card for Cage Warriors’ first ever event in the Welsh capital, which will take place at St David’s Hall on Saturday, October 27.

Carvalho (14-5-0) will be making his Cage Warriors debut having recently signed an exclusive contract with the organisation, while Pendred (10-2-1) will aim to clinch a shot at CWFC welterweight champion Gael Grimaud by extending his unbeaten Cage Warriors streak to five fights.

A BJJ black belt, Carvalho has won nine of his last 10 bouts, a run that stretches back to April 2009. The 30-year-old Brazilian’s only loss in that time came at the hands of ex-Dream champion and current Bellator welterweight Marius Zaromskis last November.

Carvalho won the WFC middleweight title in 2009 but has since dropped to welterweight. His most recent bout saw him secure an M-1 win over Ramazan Esenbaev in March.

He also holds victories over former KSW middleweight champion Vitor Nobrega, Dream veteran Tatsuya Mizuno, former Pride middleweight Jean-Francois Lenogue and The Ultimate Fighter 11 contestant Kyacey Uscola.

Pendred has gone 3-0-1 under the Cage Warriors banner since first fighting for the organisation back in November 2010.

A member of Ireland’s renowned SBGi camp, the 25-year-old was particularly impressive on his last outing, scoring a unanimous decision win over David Bielkheden at Cage Warriors 47 in his home-town of Dublin in June.
