ZACH HICKS/BRANDON PEMBERTON SQUARE OFF IN A FEATHERWEIGHT #1 CONTENDER FIGHT
May 8, 2013 Comments
(PRESS RELEASE) -- On May 11 at Marathon Music Works in Nashville,
TN, Zachary
Hicks and Brandon
Pemberton will square off in a #1 contender fight to determine
who will fight Adam Denton
for V3Fights’ vacant featherweight title. This is truly a bout
where two different styles will collide inside of the V3 cage.
Hicks had a standout amateur wrestling career, and has made an easy transition over to MMA where he continues to his wrestling to dominate opponents. In his last fight, he was able to defeat All-American wrestler, Greg Stratman, in under a minute in the very first round. Hicks is currently a high school wrestling coach, which is obviously helping him stay sharp and on point with his grappling.
Pemberton has some of the best Muay Thai that has ever been seen
inside of the V3 cage. His footwork and movement inside the cage is
second to none and helps him to pick apart his opponents. Pemberton
would like nothing better than to defeat Hicks and get a rematch
with Adam Denton,
who to this day is the only person that has been able to defeat
Pemberton.
It’s obvious that Hicks will want to get this fight to the ground and Pemberton will want to keep the fight standing. The winner will be the one that can execute their game plan and use their strength to their advantage. Both fighters feel very confident going into this bout:
"I have a lot of respect for Pemberton. I think he’s one of the best strikers in the state at 145. He throws very unorthodox kicks and punches. That being said, I see a lot I can exploit in his game. I think I’m more well-rounded than he is. I know he’s a southpaw, and I’ve been working with pure boxing southpaws and pure Muay Thai southpaws. I’ve been sparring them on a daily basis. I know my training partners are better than he is, so come fight time I’ll be ready. I have no doubt in my mind that I can finish him, but I know I can drag him into deep waters if I need to. I plan on making a statement."
Brandon Pemberton
“Hicks is a tough opponent. He is probably my toughest opponent match up wise. He’s a strong wrestler, but I’ve been taken down in all but three of my fights, so it’s nothing I’m not prepared for. Should be an interesting match.”
Not only are these two fighters the best of the best at their respective disciplines, but also two of the best featherweights in the southeast region. Don’t miss out when they collide on May 11!!!!
This event will be aired on Comcast Sports South
