Virna Jandiroba made Amanda Lemos pay dearly for venturing into her world.
The former Invicta Fighting Championships title holder outgrappled and outscrambled Lemos en route to a second-round submission victory in the UFC on ESPN 60 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. That makes four consecutive wins for Jandiroba, who has established herself as a serious championship contender at 115 pounds. Outside of perhaps Tatiana Suarez, nobody else in the division has a more legitimate claim to a shot at reigning champ Weili Zhang — and Jandiroba has been far more active. In the meantime, Jandiroba climbs all the way to No. 2 in Sherdog’s latest divisional rankings.
In housekeeping news, Deiveson Figueiredo continues to make noise at 135 pounds, but his days as a flyweight appear to be a thing of the past. As a result, the former 125-pound king exits those rankings, clear the way for Charles Johnson, who has won three in a row, to join the poll at No. 15. Meanwhile, Lauren Murphy hasn’t competed since absorbing a hellacious beating at the hands of Jessica Andrade in January 2023. That signals a farewell to “Lucky” from the women’s flyweight rankings, as Tracy Cortez joins the bubble.
