Dos Anjos Ascends
Rafael dos Anjos is for real.
The hard-hitting Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt scored a sizzling stoppage of former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson in the first round of their UFC Fight Night “Henderson vs. dos Anjos” main event on Aug. 23. In landing a perfectly placed left hook, dos Anjos became the first man to knock out Henderson and cemented his status as a 155-pound contender. This edition of the Sherdog.com rankings sees dos Anjos rise to No. 5 in the lightweight top 10, while Henderson tumbles down four spots to No. 6.
The other Zuffa offering on Aug. 23, UFC Fight Night “Bisping vs. Le,” saw perennial middleweight contender Michael Bisping dissect former Strikeforce champ Cung Le in Macau. Still in search of his first Ultimate Fighting Championship title shot after eight years and 20 fights with the organization, Bisping kept his spot at No. 10 in the middleweight rankings by halting Le with a fourth-round knee and follow-up punches.
At welterweight, Jordan Mein needed just 72 seconds to knock out Mike Pyle and earn a spot on the 170-pound contenders’ list. The young Canadian takes the place of Martin Kampmann, who has been removed from the rankings after one year of inactivity with no fight scheduled.
