Rewind: Todd Martin Discusses MMA Hall of Fame

By Jack Encarnacao Aug 11, 2014

Only recently did it begin to feel like MMA had ripened enough as a sport to justify a discussion of who belongs in a true Hall of Fame, and the Sherdog Radio Network "Rewind" stands ready to foster the conversation.

Host Jack Encarnacao welcomes Sherdog, Wrestling Observer, and L.A. Times scribe Todd Martin to discuss his rigorous five-part Sherdog series assessing a virtual master list of MMA giants who belong in the discussion.

The pair touch on what a righteous set of hall of fame criteria should look like for MMA, how much contributions to the sport's evolution and profile should count, and what to do with fighters who have memorable peaks but spectacular falls. The 90-plus minute discussion also delves into what influence, if any, performance enhancing drug use should have on a fighter's candidacy, and what the common threads are among fighters most people seem to agree should be in.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a more expansive yet focused discussion of what an MMA Hall of Fame should be, and who should be in it, than this edition of the Rewind, available for download here.
