David Onama Has his Sights Set on Reaching the Top 15 by Year's End
Should things go according to David Onama’s plans, he will be ranked among the best Ultimate Fighting Championship 145-pounders before the end of the year. Onama (10-1, 2-1 UFC) is set to take on Nate Landwehr in the co-headliner of the upcoming UFC on ESPN 41 card. “The Silent Assassin” is very aware that his next opponent is a mixed martial arts veteran, but he is also confident in his skills. After dropping a decision to Mason Jones in his short-notice promotional debut at lightweight, Onama finished Gabriel Benitez via first-round knockout at UFC Fight Night 201 before choking out Garret Armfield at UFC on ESPN 29. Now, he hopes to make a statement against Landwehr and catch everyone’s attention.
“After this fight, I want to get one more in before the end of the year. Hopefully, I’ll get ranked this year. If not, next year. My main goal right now is to beat Nate and then be ranked. If not, get one more fight before next year. I’ll bet right back at the gym after this fight. I want to get ranked this year, that’s my biggest goal right now, to be ranked and get one more fight.”
